Mei Li Paperie Sketch Challenge #1

Here's what I created for the first ever sketch challenge for Mei Li Paperie.  I have stepped out of my comfort zone by using lots of bright patterned papers all at once.  It doesn't really look much like the original sketch but it did at the start, that's just what happens.

Being A Kiwi

Challange 34 for Challange Me Happy this fortnight was to create a layout using a sketch, I really wanted to use hexagon's so I found a template and off I went.  This photo is of Ben at his first school production in 2010 (after only being there two months), it was based on Kiwiana and a group of 5 year olds dressed up as kiwi's and held kiwifruit.

Vintage Kids

This layout was made for the Challange Me Happy latest challange which was to be inspired by a photo they put up on their blog.  I tried to string another piece of lace onto this but couldn't make it work that I was happy with.

All Boy

I created this layout for the October challange on the NZ Paper Chase site, we had to follow a recipe of ingrediants and instrustions without seeing their picture.  The person closest to their take of it wins.....sure will be interesting to see how everyone else's layouts turn out.

Memories

I created this layout of my grandmother on her wedding day back in 1934 for the latest challange on Challange Me Happy where 'Anything Goes'.  I enjoyed doing this hertiage page and trying something different.

Being Us at 3

I did this layout for the latest Challenge Me Happy challenge, we had to make our own embellishments so I made the tag on the flower, the photo corners & the wee flags at the top.

In The Blink Of An Eye

This has to be one of my favourite photo's of Kate (about 4 months).  I did this using the challenge sketch on the Scrapbook Circle site.

Card Creation

I made this card as a thank you to Ben's soccer coach for giving up his time to train and referee the boys games, quite pleased with it if I must say so myself.

Superhero Reading!!!!

We are so very very proud of Ben. We got rung during the week to ask if we could go to assmebly today. Ben's teacher got them all to write a story for the Reading Superheroes Competition run by the National Library, out of all the entries received from throughout the country Ben was awarded 2nd place in the Junior Division (years1-6), he received a certificate and a $50 book voucher. His teacher had no idea as she also received a certificate and voucher. This is his story:

My amazing superhero is my sister Kate because she makes me want to read to her as a big brother. My little sister is my reading hero because she helps me to turn into a word detective. She turns into a detective with me because she searches for words with me. She is an amazing, fantastic and funny superhero. I love my sister Kate.

Awesome work buddy keep it up we love you!!!!!

Challange Me Happy

Here's my entry into the latest challange on Challange Me Happy (thanks to Fiona Lally for giving me the push).  It's been a while since I've been creative so on this one you had to make your own embellishments.....I made the wee patterns flowers and the stripy banner.  It's not much but it's a start.

Why Hello!!!!!

OK so it's been QUITE a while since I've updated the blog.........so since the last post we've shifted house and started redecorating the new house.  When I say everything needs updating I mean EVERYTHING NEEDS UPDATING!!!!!  It was like the house had been left in the 70's, but we've already put new carpet and lino down, removed the asbestos and had all the ceilings repainted, stripped the orange (yes ORANGE) wallpaper from Ben's room and we're currently trying to finish painting the hallway.  We've had the house insulated and soon we'll start replacing the windows with double glazed one's (currently only two bi-folds are double glazed so will do the rest of the house as we can afford it).

Ben's in Year 2 at school and doing well.  Kate's doing a combination of Barnados and Kindy which she enjoys both.

We have a rumpus room now which means I have a scrap area, so tonight (the first time in 8 months) I sat down and completed something.  Miracles can happen and it feels great to be creative.

Promise it won't be as long between posts again...I've just installed the blog on my phone so can update anywhere now!

Another 1 Bites the Dust....

We finally finished painting our bedroom last weekend, what a change.

Before
hard to get a decent shot but...
After
Only thing I'm having trouble finding is main lamp shades that I like but am very happy with the transformation and my choice of colours so far.

Bad Day

On Friday the 1st of October Kate got her finger jammed in the toilet door at Spotlight.  I rushed her to our Dr's who referred us to the plastics unit at the Hospital so we spent the rest of the day in A&E and then the childrens ward.

Waiting pantiently with Dad

She had her finger x-rayed and needed an operation to put the finger back together (bits hanging out that shouldn't have been but luckily not broken),

Getting ready for the operation
& even Jamima got an ID tag so she could go to threater too
fortunately we didn't have to spend the night and we got home about 11.30pm after Kate had eaten something.....she inhaled an ice-block, 3 pieces of marmite on toast, half a bottle of water and some juice - the nurses weren't worried about her!!

Eating in style
It was a blessing that Ben was staying with Gran and Grandad so we didn't have to worry about him but he was very upset and wanted to come home.  She has coped so well with one hand while it's been wrapped up like a boxing glove, we go back to the dressings clinic tomorrow to get it accessed and redressed.

Getting Creative

I bought a scrapbooking kit a while ago and have finally sat down to do it, here's the final result.

Ben is about 18 months old in these photo's, taken at Riversdale Beach at dawn.

Something's Missing Maybe

Kate was so excited the Mark was home today and taking Ben to school so she got herself ready, should I be concerned that somethings missing!?!?

The Finished Result

This is what it looks like afterwards, so much different (and nicer).  Kate's room came up pretty good too, although took extra work as the walls were terrible and had to use super duper undercoat in there.  Every night when she goes to bed she points to the purple wall and says 'painting night night' - to cute!
